The Star And The Five Dreams
(Matthew, Chapters one and two)
In the Old Testament, Jesus'
birth was foretold Micah 5:2
And the world thought a king would be coming, in gold
But the prophecies
seemed to dispute their own words
Here's the story the people of Israel heard...
Joseph...Joseph...don't be afraid
This dream is my sign that your Mary obeyed
The wife you have chosen is blessed among men
The baby she carries will
save us from sin.
And there were three
wise men, led from afar Matt. 2:1-11
Who found Jesus under the Bethlehem Star
The gifts that were offered
where chosen with care
Revealing a story exceedingly rare.
The first was of gold, prophesying a king
The frankincense promised a priesthood to bring
The myrrh spoke of sorrow; the Lord's final breath
For myrrh represented
the day of his death.
King Herod had schemed that he'd trick
the three men Matt. 2:7-9
But a dream warned that they should not
see him again Matt. 2:12
The wise men obeyed and to Herod's dismay
Went back to their lands by a different way.
Gaspar of Greece took the news to his land
Malchoir of India told the East of God's plan
gave Africa word
Through these three wise men, Gentile nations first heard.
And then yet again had the books prophesied
would rule...that he'd take a bride
From Judah a governor, whom our God
would choose Micah 5:2
To rule His own people, and they would refuse.
And in yet another dream, God's voice was heard
"Take Him to Egypt til I send you word"
So that which was spoken by prophets was true
"My Son...out of Egypt land...I will call you."
Then sorrow was great and much weeping was heard Matt. 2:17-18
the prophet had promised, all Rama was stirred Jer. 31:15
And King Herod's scheme made a forecast come true
blood would be offered for you.
Then by dream were they called out
of Egypt again Matt. 2:19-21
prophecy free now of King Herod's plan
But during the journey a fifth dream
That our Lord would be known by the name "Nazarene." Matt.
One star...one Savior of men, lowly priced
Two kings, bad and good...they were Herod and Christ
His priesthood, the cross and a crown
And prophecies four...and five dreams are
Of The Lord Jesus Christ, both Messiah and man
The King of all Kings ever since time began
The Groom of the Church
that awaits with concern
The faithful...the few who await His return.
