How does your Mom know when you’re
fibbing! There’s an old saying that she has eyes in the back of her head. I remember when I was very young, that Mom
got after me for not answering her when she called. My retort was “I didn’t hear you til you called three times.”
There was a dead give-away there, somewhere. We still laugh about it. But Mom and Dad taught me a better way, and I’ve
tried to follow it. Even when I make a promise, I try to keep it…and to let it be known if plans change and the promise
At any rate, when
someone talking to me misses the truth, I don’t call their hand because I don’t want to embarrass them.
Did you know that God is color blind? He doesn’t accept
even little white lies. With Him, a lie is a lie, and the Bible says in James 2:10, “For whosoever shall keep the whole
law, and yet offend in one point; he is guilty of all.” He was writing about the Ten Commandments, to the Jewish people,
going on to say “For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery,
yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.”
And the Ten Commandments still endure for all of us. But this is not to say that nobody sins. There are
sins of omission where surely all of us fail. So we boil it down to the unrepented sin. If you sin and realize it, even
later, you must have heart-felt repentance, and God will forgive. If you don’t make it right with God, you’re
treading on dangerous ground.
