The world was warned that Mt. St. Helens in Oregon was going to erupt. No one, not even
the experts, knew when, but they knew it was going to happen.
But. Harry Randall Truman didn’t believe. And he died when it happened on May 18, 1980. Harry ran
a lodge in the area and wouldn’t leave his home. He gave up his life for not believing.
The world has also been warned, many, many times in the Bible that the world is
going to come to an end. The 24th chapter of Matthew is only one of the warnings by Christ Himself. He said, "This
gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
Later in the chapter, He says, "For
as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be."
And He adds, "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the earth
mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory…And he shall send
his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, and from one end
of heaven to the other.
"But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only…watch therefore for
ye know not what hour your Lord doth come…therefore be ye also ready; for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son
of man cometh.
In the following chapter,
he tells a parable of ten women who watch for the bridegroom to come (He’s speaking of Christ), and five who don’t
prepare are left out of the festivities. And Jesus again warns at the close of the parable, "Watch therefore, for ye
know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
You are warned 380 times in the New Testament alone, and this time it won’t be by water as with Noah,
but it will be by fire. Does that make you think of today’s bombs that make the first, the atomic bomb of 1945, seem
like a toy? "…wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent
heat (2 Peter 3:12).
What could be
worse? That sinners "shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone" (Revelations 21:8).
How to escape? Believe in your heart
that Jesus is the Christ; repent of your sins, however large or small, and live for Him. The end of your world, either by
death or His Second Coming, will hold no fears for you. Think about it.
