Ever quit a church because you just weren’t getting anything from the sermons?
There’s a saying that you get out what you put in. But let’s see…that’s for computers, isn’t
it…"GIGO…garbage in; garbage out."
Tell you what to
do. If you’re bored, start making a list of your blessings. You can even write them out during the sermon, because if
the minister happens to look over your way, or someone nearby notices that you’re writing something, they’ll only
think you’re taking notes. Any way, start taking them, and somewhere along the line, you’ll have to put down that
you’re thankful for having a church to visit, and the freedom so far, of the right to gather there. And health enough
to be able to be there.
Good stuff for a list. And you’d better put in
about back when you got saved, and how satisfying it felt. Why don’t they preach like that any more. Preachers hardly
ever talk about a burning hell any more. That’s what had really got me to thinking when I went to the altar, although
he had talked about God’s love, too. And Christ’s
love for giving
Himself for you. Boy, that’s something to think about. Put it on the list, too. Shhh…you’re making little
happy noises. Get back to the subject.
Healings should count. Have you ever been
healed of something? No? Hey, it doesn’t have to be a near-death experience. Think how many ways you’ve hurt yourself
and in a few days the cut or bruise was gone. Who do you think healed THAT. God just threw that in when He was creating you
in your mother’s womb. And it worked even before you knew His name. The colic and the knot that came up on your forehead
when you were learning to crawl and hit your head on the edge of the couch.
the preacher said anything untruthful while you were making your list? No? Isn’t THAT a breath of fresh air, after those
ads that claim you’ll lose weight. You can’t believe half of what you hear on TV. Ah…I’ll finish
this list when I get home. Id rather BE a blessing than to GET one, anyway. The preacher is sounding better all the time.
Thank God for my pastor!
