Some time ago, I made a list of what I called "Bible Firsts,"
and I suppose I could still be adding to that list. In fact, just recently, I added the first death: The animal that gave
its life to cover the first sin, caused by the first temptation of Adam and Eve. How could I have missed that one…a
picture of Christ later becoming the final, once for all, sacrifice for our sins!
This is told in the third chapter of Genesis…how the first
serpent told the first lie, telling Eve that she wouldn’t die by eating the fruit. But he was misusing the truth…that
she would not die immediately, although she would die at a time in the future. The amazing thing of this whole episode, was
that if Adam and Eve had obeyed God, they would not have had to die.
Can I assume that if no one had eaten of that tree of life, that there would have been no deaths?
That truly would have made the Garden of Eden, Heaven on earth. But God gave Man a freedom of choice, and when he ate, he
sealed Man’s fate. I could write a song about that.
We Americans are having a tug of war concerning our freedoms, as laid out in our bill of Rights, written back in 1789 by our first Congress. In article three, it grants us "freedom
of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble."
To me, that freedom to assemble includes gathering in church groups.
Our government is tinkering with that, and we won’t be surprised when a leader decides that such groups might get too
noisy about what is already being done to us, causing thoughts of resisting. They’re already hinting of what we can
and can not preach from our Bible, and one of the swords they’re hanging over our heads is the threat of taking away
the non-taxable status of churches. And while allowing God to be in the picture, they’re talking of rules against using
words like "Christ" and "Jesus." in some situations. Many of you nations already are living under much
worse situations. Our prayers are for you…do the same for us.
