What is more satisfying that to be watching
TV or reading a good book, only to waken and find you’ve had a wonderful nap! And to think…in all my years,
I don’t believe I’ve ever thought to thank God for this fine blessing! Of course I thank Him each morning for
the night’s sleep, but that’s part of another prayer.
And it’s so nice to look forward to bedtime after a busy day. It’s a thing to
anticipate, that you can put away the stress of your job, which has kept your mind on a track that’s so important to
the company and to the family who are depending on you to pay the bills that accumulate so quickly.
And have you ever driven on a long trip to see friends,
but after the excitement of that visit, and you’re almost back home, you can envision that oh so comfortable bed that’s
And that peaceful
rest can come so often…it’s not like waiting a year for a certain holiday…that peaceful closing of the
eyes and drifting away, is a form of earthly heaven.
God think of every thing! I’ve talked in these Conquest articles in the past, about the lazy, beautiful clouds, and
the miracles of the changing seasons, but what can be more peaceful than slipping into the recuperation that sleep gives,
in preparing for another day the Lord has given you.
Jeremiah (31:26) appreciated sleep, saying, "I awoke and looked, and my sleep was pleasant to me." Psalm 4:8 says,
"In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety." And Psalm 21:3-4
says, "he will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel (and us)
will neither slumber nor sleep."
One thing I would whisper to you as you fade into dreamland; say a little prayer to the Lord, that He include you, if he should
come for Christians during the night. "In case He should come suddenly and find you asleep" (Mark 13:36). Sweet
