Here’s what I heard a lady minister
say on TV, as to how she quit smoking. In her younger days, she had smoked for 20 years, and after becoming a Christian she
prayed and pleaded with God to help her quit. Surprisingly, God finally said, "Lay your cigarette pack on that table.
Look at your hand. You want Me to kill your habit, when you’re letting one member of your body, dictate what the
rest of you does. Lay your cigarettes on that table and don’t pick them up."
It cured her. Now, from my personal viewpoint, I’ll say that
faith takes more than a mind-set…it takes obedience. That lady minister ended the story of her "cure" by
comparison to riding in a car with a bad driver who runs red lights, speeds, and does all the other wrong things. She siad,
"GET OUT OF THE CAR!"
What a message. Tell your brain you’re quitting; get with the program brain, and cooperate.
Your Bible says nothing about smoking, but it says,
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are
not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body" (First Corinthians 6:19-20).
As one of our presidents once said, "There
you go again." And there the Bible goes again, using common sense on us. If we want health, we earn it by caring for
our body, resisting things we know will harm us; often fatally.
Go on. Lay them on the table.
