I was 20 before it even crossed my mind that I'd marry, sooner or later. And it must have been about that time that I began asking God to pick for me. I only remember the kind I didn't want. To put it plainly, I said, "no cussing, no smoking, no drinking." He picked one named Louise.
A wouldn't you know... a few years after we were married, she said she had asked for the same. And it comes to mind now, that neither one of us had specified looks, or weight, or money. And it lasted 65 years.
Oh... I should mention that that's 65 and counting, because nothing has changed except that she's gone ahead to check the mansions He talks about in John 14:3. But you'll notice that houses weren't mentioned in our specifications.
Jesus was clear about how more important is our inside over our outside. You may have noticed a couple now and then, and wondered to yourself "what she saw in him" or vice-versa. But it may be that he or she was looking for the same things the Lord finds important in a person.
But love can be mean. A person can spend time with lots of prospects, and if you're not careful, cupid can cause you to be smitten with a wrong number. And so you'd better have your talk with the Lord before the dating season begins. Finding that you've chosen wrong can make your entire life a disaster. First, give your heart to Christ, then ask Him to share the right one for your life together here.
It's the only threesome that can work forever.
