James, brother of John, was the first of the apostles killed by Herod because of his belief in Jesus, and his book in the Bible is said to be the first book now found in the New Testament. And speaking of his being killed, Peter was in prison at that time, and was scheduled to be executed the next morning, so the other apostles were praying continuously for him, but no mention was made that anyone praying for James.
And that's doubly strange, because he and his brother John, along with Peter, were what we'd call Jesus’ "inner circle," because those three were chosen by Jesus many times, to be with Him for various activities.
For example, those three were with Jesus at the transfiguration, when Moses and Elijah came from Heaven to meet with Jesus.
But the pity was that although James was the first of the apostles to die for Jesus, all of them except his brother, John, were killed for the same reason. James died by the sword, as was Mathew; Peter was crucified upside down; Andrew, Peter’s brother, was crucified, as was Philip, Simon the Zealot, and Jude. Bartholomew was skinned alive, then beheaded. Thomas was killed by a spear, and James Alphaeus was beaten to death by a club after being crucified and stoned. And Matthias, who had replaced Judas, as stoned and beheaded. Only John died a normal death.
And to think that people in some countries are still being killed for their belief in Jesus Christ. Some countries will allow the word "God" to be voiced, but won't accept Jesus as the Christ. My thinking is that this is the reason some areas are starving. Pray that our own nation will never deny Him to that length. Pray that today's behavior in this country will stop. billthorntonconquests.com
