William Horton and Me
I wonder if William Horton is still alive. I think from time to time, how we were in a football scrimmage in 1946...not a game, just practice…at our Hoxie, Arkansas, high school, and I saw the closing moments of my life.
In a pileup of several players, I was on the ground, on my back, when I saw the 200 pound body of William Horton, falling directly on me, at the bottom of the pile. I actually knew my time had come. No way could I live.
Then, a miracle. It had to be God who looked into my future and moved William. The pile of bodies got up and practice continued, not knowing how close all had come to being part of my death. Years later, William came to the school's annual reunion…the only time he ever came, and I told him that he had almost been a part of a death in our football practice, and of course, he had no idea of the time. And I didn't mention to him that in a later game, in a pileup, he came out with the ball, and started running the wrong way toward the opponent's goal. I caught him and prevented his other "greatest moment;" one he would not have forgotten!
How many times has God intervened and saved us from things we'd never realize! And the greatest miracle of all, is still the one when He saves our souls. Everything else in our lives pales in comparison. The thought comes back to me that "Grace" is God, giving us what we don't deserve, and "Mercy" is His NOT giving us what we Do deserve! I have that little saying framed in my room.
If you haven't given your heart to the Lord, satan and your saddest day is waiting. Please disappoint him. Right now is a good time to tell Jesus that you're read to live for him. Your Heaven depends on it. billthorntonconquests.com
