Mom and Dad--Your Sermon
Parents, the two most important "sermons" you'll ever preach, are the two your children hear when you give "The Talk" of their lifetime, to your children. One is against satan; the other will be against the very nature that God created in each of us. One from birth; the other as each of them nears puberty…the time when they first get that "grown up" feeling.
The first, where satan begins, is as soon after birth that a child can be taken to church. Although he or she won't understand what's going on, they'll begin to become familiar with the sounds and actions that have to do with Jesus and God. The other "must" is that talk with the pre-teen. The girl, to learn that the most important thing she can offer to her husband to be, is her sexual body, with the flower still unopened. Giving it away before that time, means it's gone forever. It's precious, and the most valuable part she can give to marriage.
The other is the ability for the son himself, to create life. The right way is to deny himself, but even more important is reject the reckless use of that creation, that can cause untold responsibilities of any girl he might take advantage of. Even her consent doesn't erase the act that can ruin either, or both of their lives. Abortion haunts a girl to the end of her days, and a decision to give a baby she can't manage, leaves a lifetime of questions and sorrows.
And parents, you'll be just as torn up, mentally, wondering where you went wrong. Your responsibility? To be Christians, and to raise them by living it in front of them, behind them, and every other way that's right. Don’t fail to warn them constantly of their obligations. Talk plain and don't let one nervous "sermon" end your duty to them.
